WRIGHTS GW SAUVIGNON BLANC 2003

This style of wine is fruit-driven, concentrating on the natural flavours in the grape. The GW range of wines has not been produced with animal by-products or dairy products, making it suitable for vegans and vegetarians to enjoy. The wine is the first in New Zealand to be fully certified vegetarian through the New Zealand Vegetarian Society.

The grapes come from Ian Smith's vineyard at Te Karaka, Gisborne. Within Ian's vineyard are only two rows of Sauvigon Blanc from which my wine has been made. The grapes came in at 23 brix, with 5% of the grapes dehydrated, given the wine an underlying richness to the flavour. The wine has a strong passionfruit and blackcurrant flavour, with a crisp acidity.

This wine goes excellently with food or on a warm summer's day. A portion of the wine was aged in French oak barrels, adding complexity and softness.
