Wrights Fume Blanc 2014, is not your traditional Sauvignon Blanc. Fermented on skins and maturated for another two weeks on skins. Then barrel aged for 10 months, with a portion going through malolactic fermentation.
This wine has an enticing smokie aroma, with intense depth of colour and complex full flavours on the palette. It is nothing like a Sauvignon Blanc – more like an Órange Wine style, with oxidative winemaking techniques to soften tannins.
To date this is New Zealand’s only 5 star rated órange wine’, reviewed by Raymond Chan.
Grown in Gisborne, at our Terrace Vineyard, Ormond Valley appellation. Cuttings were taken from one of the original Sauvignon Blanc clones brought to Gisborne in the 1980’s. These vines are not grafted but planted on their own roots.
