Wrights Semillon Sauvignon Blanc 2014, this wine has been barrel aged for 9 months in older oak to help create a more softer fuller style.
We have just come across 5 cases of this wine in our winery, a delight for the customers who prefer an aged wine. We opened one of these up over the weekend and were quite surprised by it. It has a lovely golden colour with some oxidative characters which have softened the wine an helped to harmonise the oak and fruit together. It is nothing like a typical Sauvignon Blanc, so if you are expecting this then we would discourage you to try it.
Grown in Gisborne, at our Terrace Vineyard, Ormond Valley appellation. Cuttings were taken from one of the original Sauvignon Blanc clones brought to Gisborne in the 1980’s. These vines are not grafted but planted on their own roots.
