Our People

At Wrights, we are a hard working bunch of kiwi's, with a rich history of wine growing in New Zealand. At present we have Geoff Wright at the helm of the business, supported with his five boys, Nicola Wright and Alice Poncet.

Wrights Vineyard and Winery are 3rd generation winemakers in New Zealand, from Croatia.

Winemaking flows through the generations of the Wright family.  Geoff's Great Grandfather Stanko Jurakovich immigrated from Croatia when he was a child and held one of the original winemakers licence in Auckland, Kumeu, dated 14th March 1931.

He purchased the vineyard off his Brother in Law Martin Lovich, who was the first Croatian family to own this land. He held 18 acres and planted 1 acre of grapes on this land. In 1944 Mate Brajkovich purchased the land off Stanko Jurakovich. Where the Brajkovich still as of today have run there winery on the original site - now known as Kumeu Vineyards.

The vineyard and winery was sold to San Marino Vineyards, which is now part of the well known winery Kumeu River.

Geoff's parents continued with horticulture growing tomatoes, cucumbers, carnations, strawberries and beans in Henderson.
